Masking is a low-level background sound added to the environment that prevents workers from easily understanding nearby conversations that may distract them in the workplace.

CONFIDENTIAL/NORMAL PRIVACY - Allows for "Confidential privacy" in offices where none of the conversation is clearly understood and "Normal privacy" in workstations where roughly 20% or two out of ten words are understood. Masking reduces the radius of distraction from 50 ft to 12-15 ft in an open plan.

PRESENTATION - Largely unobtrusive and may be indistinguishable from normal HVAC sounds. There are no visible speakers, wires or equipment. Masking raises the building's background sound slightly and targets only a narrow band of frequencies.
